Gotta feeling...

21 is going to be a good year.

Here's hoping anyway.

Priceless

There's nothing about this article that is unfunny.

Everything from the bee is the mouth to the thought of this man signing one of Justin Timberlake's songs...it's perfect.

Freedom is Slavery

Check out this old Planned Parenthood quote. They take offense at the notion that the Catholic Church considers children to be gifts from God.

Pillars of Fire

I feel like taking a break from my paper, so I might as well make the most of this time and blog my first poem titled, as you might guess, pillars of fire. The works I'll post are not finished products, so a correction here or there is appreciated (I'm sure I can improve the meter and such; it's little things like that that made me avoid trying poetry until this summer). Anyway, here goes:

Pillars of fire, pillars of flame
Stand in their shadow
History judges the hero who's slain
Stand at attention

Heavy feet stamp as the armies trudge on
Marching for miles
Heavy arms straining to grip spears and shields
Arms of our fathers
Heavy hearts sink as the hearth's light grows dim
recedes behind us

Death before slavery and tyranny's gain
Greek blood buys freedom

Warriors camp at the pillars of fire
Forcing a last stand
Warriors united, once enemies, now
Shoulder to shoulder
Warrior's blood pumps, it knows it must flow
Water the soil

Many know home's warmth they won't feel again
At least it still stands

Glistening moonlight and stars cut the dark
Stillness now broken
Glistening spearpoints reflecting the light
Treason has sold them
Glistening eyes spy the Persians who march on
Down hidden mount's path

All but the Spartans must turn south again
Wait for Platea

Three hundred lambdas now stand in the narrows
Pillars of fire
Three hundred cold eyes stare into the night
See death approaching
Three hundred heads of hair blow in the breeze
Their crown is glory

Stranger, to Lacadaemon shall you tell
How here three hundred brave souls fought and fell

The Muse, she strikes

I'm contemplating posting some songs/poems I wrote this summer. I need to edit them and type them up eventually anyway, so why not post them?

I really wish I could put some of them to music. I need a Randy Rhodes to my Ozzy Osbourne.

Quiz

Well, Zorak said I have to take this quiz, and I guess I felt the need to help her out...

The Life Raft.

As typified by the life raft floating in a turbulent sea, this personality type strongly needs to help others and to be thought of as a generous and kind individual. Often precisely because these people are so reliable and so willing to help others without recompense, they are taken advantage of and regarded as simply part of the scenery. This problem is compounded by the tendency for Life Raft personalities to view self-promotion as suspect or without merit. These personalities will work unfailingly for a goal and often as not see other, more outgoing personalities take the credit for it.

Generally overworked in an office environment, Life Rafts are nevertheless highly regarded by a wise employer, who sees in them many years of unswerving devotion to the job. Very accurate and precise thinkers, Life Rafts work best when handling the work themselves; they do not appreciate a managerial role and tend to be uncomfortable in that position.

Euthanasia

A consequentialist take on the subject that also challenges the supposed friend of the downtrodden, presidential candidate Howard Dean.

Alright, I'm back

The urge to blog has been rising lately.

So, I'll start by posting this wonderful article. Technology has opened our eyes to such incredible beauty. Telescopes have allowed us to behold the colors of countless stars, all laid out like a master's painting before us. Telephones have allowed us to hear the soothing voice of a loved one, now matter how many miles lie between us.

Now, a mother has the simple joy of looking within her and watching her child smile.

Announcement

My friend Cacciaguida has moved, for the time being anyway, to cangrande.blogspot.com. Do continue to read his wonderful blog.

As for my readers, I'm sorry for the recent lack of blogging. The school year is in full swing, and with it comes a heck of a lot of responsibility. If something really gets under my skin, or if I get an e-mail I can't help but comment on, I'll post some more thoughts. Other than that, I imagine The Gordian Knot will be in a state of hibernation for awhile.

Also, check out some more blogs I've linked to over on the right.

Goodnight.
